Miami Beach

We finally pried ourselves from the dock at Coral Ridge Yacht Club after two weeks! We had a very enjoyable stay with friends and family. Barb’s (2nd or 3rd?) cousin Janie and husband Bill were gracious in loaning us a car, so we were able to do our heavy provisioning and refill propane, pick up parts, and deliver the supplies we had shipped in. We enjoyed a few dinners with them during our stay, and always look forward to our time in Ft Lauderdale! Mr. Fixit visited Chris & Joyce on a few occasions, tool pouch in hand to assist with some minor repairs. I also took advantage of the warmer water temps to go under Maerin for a check on zincs, to replace a thruster zinc that I knew was due, and also to check on Celebrate as she also had thruster zincs missing. Barb attended the orchid show with Chris & Joyce, and later in our stay we were Chris and Joyce’s guests aboard Celebrate for the Coral Ridge Yacht Club Fleet Review and Change of Watch ceremony and dinner. An auspicious occasion, I broke out the tie and jacket.

We enjoyed our stay, and after a bit over 2 weeks, decided for a change of venue and headed toward Miami Beach. A favorite stop, we enjoy the park with the regulars in the evening as the park becomes an unofficial dog park. We renewed acquaintances with Dewey, Colette, Maggie, Lucy, Dora, Nautical, and a bunch of new faces, both canine and human! The dogs have a great time, they too have their favorites and it’s amusing to see them playing! It’s particularly amusing to watch Dora, the teacup pug at about 4 pounds, climbing on Dewey, the 80 pound yellow lab, growling and nipping at his nose. Thursday we took advantage of the spectacular weather and walked to South Beach with the sun shining and temps in the low 80s. A great south Florida day!

We’ll stay here for a week or so, our tenative plans are to cross to the Bahamas around the 25th of the month. There are other boats heading to the Selene rendezvous, our plan is to have some company for the crossing and perhaps the travel south to the Exumas.

    Finally some Florida weather !
We have a nice Seafoam frosting type coating over our lawn the dogs I think have forgotten what green grass is.
It sounds as though you are having a great time catching up with your mutual snowbirds!

    Thinking of you

It was great to meet you last week as we settled onto Freedom (nee Kasekuchen). Thank you for helping Cheryl ready her for us. I am back in snowy/icy/rainy/foggy Pennsylvania, and counting the days until I can return to Florida in 3 weeks. Lucky Cary, he is still there learning all about our new boat. Happy travels – hopefully we will meet up along the way….

Just wanted to let you know that we had some fresh snow here this morning! More importantly though– if you 2 don’t soon move on you are liable to get barnacles on your bottom!
    Have fun in paradise! 😉

You can cook, or perhaps a deck brush will fit your hand. But I’m not sure the cruising life would be stimulating enough for a big city girl!

    Love,
    Dad
