Canso

Our cruise from Louisbourg to Canso sets us back on the North American mainland as we bid Cape Breton fond good-bye. So far, the highlight of our trip, with stunning scenery, superb cruising and wonderfully warm people. Cape Breton is a cruise that would be worthwhile all on its own!

We left with winds out of the east at 15-20 kts, seas were 3-4 ft. but with a long period, so our ride was on a quartering sea that is a bit rolly but the stabilizers settle out the roll for a ride that has a lot of movement, but it’s not uncomfortable. There is a very small marina and RV park at Canso, we took a slip overnight, and a walk around town in the evening until mosquito time pretty much covered the town! Not a lot here. There is a fish processing plant further up the road, but we didn’t walk that far for fear of excessive blood loss.

We’ll head out Sunday morning, bound for Liscomb, about 55 miles away.

Glad you enjoyed Cape Breton. You flush out the history and culture well. I’ve enjoyed “traveling” along on your tour. I was reminded of a story of a First Nations elder who taught “If you see a black moose it will be a sign”. And you got the picture to prove it!
Best of luck as you continue your cruise.

Thanks for the props, Charlie. We’ve certainly enjoyed your part of the country, probably the favorite part of our loop. We hope to get back another summer!

    Cheers!
