Left Savannah 1538, passed to seaward at Tybee Roads just after dark for a night passage to St. Mary’s inlet at Fernandina Beach. The passage went well, we alternated 2 hour watches and did manage to get some rest. Watches at night are not particularly exciting, the most challenging part is staying alert and awake. We did have 2 or 3 radar contacts, but never closer than a few miles. As we were starting into the inlet just after sunrise, we hailed Celebrate and got a reply via cell phone that they had left Beaufort at about 1100 and made enough speed that they passed up St. Mary’s at about 0430 and were going to continue to St. John’s or further south. Our cruise was relatively smooth, light winds at 10-15kts and seas 2-3 ft. No photos on this post, instead, just close your eyes….. you’ll get the picture. Dark, dark, dark!
We made 115 nm. in just over 15 hrs, and avoided a lot of skinny water inside Georgia.
