Happy Turkey Day!!

We arrived in Beautiful Beaufort on Wednesday afternoon, after a leisurely run from the Ashepoo River where we spent a very peaceful night on the hook under cloudy skies. The section of the river where we anchored is very isolated, with very few signs of civilization. We anchored just off a dock at a hunting camp. We took advantage of the isolated dock and went ashore for a long walk with the dogs. We saw deer as we returned just before dark, earlier we had seen some dolphins working the river close to shore. The quiet was very remarkable, not a sound to be heard other than some distant birds.

Beaufort truly lives up to its “beautiful’ moniker. It is a lovely town, lots of history, and many beautiful old antebellum homes. Some of the homes are very large, reminiscent of a bygone era of unbridled prosperity. Most are still wonderfully maintained. I can only imagine the painting bills! The town is a great visit, many interesting shops, art galleries, and many upscale restaurants. This was our 4th visit, the first being way back in 2000 when we brought the Carver north from Florida. We managed to stop in long enough to take a quick late-night walk through town, and left early the following morning. This trip is more relaxed, and we’ve enjoyed leisurely walks through the town, with a bit of shopping.

Nothing extra special for Thanksgiving dinner, a pork roast and some real mashed potatoes, we’re thankful we have the opportunity to visit so many wonderful places! We’ll probably stay another day, we’re headed to Brunswick, GA where we’ll take a rental car home for an early holiday visit with family, but we’ll make a few stops along the way at some places we missed the last trip.

ohhhh, I love Beaufort! Your blog brings it all back – thanks. We’re also thankful that we found a buyer for Kairos and that Dan successfully delivered her to DC for her new owner and was back in time for Thanksgiving. All in all, a great outcome! Enjoy your road trip – Dan and Myla

I just thought I would try your comments section, regarding my query on blogging. Beaufort is one of our favorite cruising stops. My wife Sue and I spent the better part of three years loafing up and down the east coast a few years ago on our then trawler, DIVA. She was a DeFever49CPMY, and a very comfortable home.

We stayed so long in Beaufort that we almost gave up cruising and bought a house. A charming town. But we are back in Sarasota FL now, where we have downsized to a Mainship 34 Pilot Sedan and a downtown condo. We actively cruise the west coast of Florida and look at Sarasota Bay from our windows at home.
