We’ll head out of Bimini today, south to Gun Cay for a couple of hours in Honeymoon Harbor at the urging of a Trawler List subscriber who’s also a paid captain on board a yacht here in Bimini. I spoke to him on the radio yesterday afternoon as he was returning from that area. We’ll overnight off Gun Cay, then get an early start for the 90 mile run across the Grand Bahama Bank. The Berry’s are more remote, so we may not have internet available, and updates may come less frequently. We have no cell phone service, but can call out with Skype if we have internet service. The most reliable way to get communications to us is by contact via e-mail. That way the message is waiting for us when we have internet.
Friday was spent exploring more of Alice Town, we took a walk up to Baily town to the north, and also dropped the dink in the water & took a dink ride to Bimini Bay, the new development to the north, and visited South Bimini by boat. The airport is located in South Bimini, and although we didn’t see it, we’re told it’s pretty much an airstrip with a building housing Customs, Immigration, and some basic terminal facilities. Not a state of the art facility!
We took some photos of the Dolphin House, a creation of local artist Ashley Saunders, he’s spent years constructing his house from tiles and local materials. Very unique!
Another afternoon on Radio Beach, and then back to the Marina. Friday evening here brought lots more activity as boaters from the Florida coast converge on Bimini for the weekend. There were about 14 boats in the marina, two of which were big Real Ship trawlers, quite impressive with their long foredeck with their big tenders perched there!
Our weather window is forecast to be very good all the way into next week, so we’ll have a good opportunity to find a nice spot to spend the inevitable approach of the next frontal system!

Hey guys. So good to hear that your crossing was uneventful…they are the best kind. We are currently in Nassau and plan to head to Bimini on Wednesday/Thursday, March 18/19. Don’t know if we’ll stop in Chub Cay, overnight, or not, but send us an email if you can…we may not have internet access for long. Hope to see you before we head back to the States.
Welcome to the Bahamas, mon!!!! Have fun.
